Intermediate Enameling (Cloisonne)

• Agar
• 4 Sifters (2 medium & 2 small)
• Dental Tools: 1 spatula, 1 very fine point
• Medium Expansion/Medium Temperature Enamels: Foundation White, Fusing Clear, at least 3 opaque colors (your choice) and at least three transparent colors (your choice)
• 1 Counter Enamel
• 1 Scalex
• 1 pair very fine point tweezers
• 1 pair flat nose tweezers for removing hot pieces from trivets
• Diamond needle files set
• Fine round nose pliers
• Small chain nose pliers
• 8-10 pieces of 18 or 20 gauge copper or fine silver appropriate for your design(s)
• 2 feet cloisonne wire
• Alundum stones: 150 & 220 grit AND/OR
• Flexible Diamond strips: M74 280 grit, M40 400 grit and a file blank for Velcro strips
• 3M sandpaper: 220, 320, 400, & 600 grits (2 sheets each)
• Glass Brush
• Dust Mask
• Toothpicks
• Small watercolor palette dish with compartments
• 1 extra fine, 1 fine, and 1 slightly bigger watercolor brushes
• Double-sided sticky tape
• Old dish towel, old toothbrush, a water dish, masking tape, 10 pieces of copy paper, tracing paper, a pencil, some colored pencils, scissors, sketch paper
• Small straight metal cutting scissors (Fiskars micro-tip or other brand)
• Artwork / Design ideas
• OPTIONAL: No-Name Patina Prep* (the school will supply Ajax for metal cleaning)

*NoName Patina Prep
This is a powdered polishing compound for cleaning sterling and copper prior to applying enamel. Its combination of rounded abrasives and mild acid removes discolorations and oxides and leaves a soft, lustrous finish. Recent tests indicate that No Name is excellent for preparing copper for enameling. In many cases it may replace acid cleaning and pumice, while providing for a safer working environment. No Name appears to leave no residue on the surface and does not interact with the enamels.
