1- Cast iron pitchbowl, half-round shape (6” is standard). Buy an empty pitch bowl, and we will fill it during the class.
1- Pitchbowl “Donut” available at the Naja (a small canvas sandbag will do, or a 6” lawnmower wheel with the center removed)
Pitch, medium grade petroleum based pitch-also known as German or Northwest pitch. You will need a minimum of 2 pounds of medium grade pitch per 6” bowl and 3 pounds per 8” bowl.
1- Chasing hammer or a small (4 oz.) ball peen hammer. Any style will do.
Magnifying visor (Optivisor) with a focal length of about 14”
1- Scriber or X-Acto knife to scratch designs into the metal
1- Pliers preferable a pair of chain nose pliers (a pair you don’t care about)
Tool steel – package of 7 pieces from the Naja
Steel Wool – Look for grades that are 000 or 0000
3”x3” sheet 20 to 22 gauge copper sheet metal
A notebook
1- Book “Chasing” by Marsha Lewis
1- package “Sculpy” or “Fimo” Polymer Clay (available at craft stores)
Tracing paper
1- Glue stick or rubber cement
X-Acto Knife
Studio Fee - $5.00
Finishing tools and techniques will be
discussed in class as the project is completed
